Sonya Lewis is a seasoned professional with a unique journey from Registered Dietitian and Health Educator to a User Experience expert. Currently at Sunflower UX, a BIPOC-owned user research company, she serves as a Product Designer and leads accessibility initiatives. Sonya completed her User Experience Design (UXD) Certificate at SMU in 2019, marking the beginning of her impactful career transition. Throughout her career, Sonya has collaborated with prominent HealthTech and EdTech companies, including ADPList, CVS Health, and IPSOS, where she excelled as a UX Researcher and Accessibility Designer. Her focus on working with People with Disabilities (PwD) and Assistive Tech (AT) users has provided her with valuable insights into the integral role of lived experiences in shaping end-to-end technology product design and development. Sonya is renowned for her leadership in accessibility, from conducting audits and workforce training to advocating for inclusive design with C-level executives. She actively engages in co-design processes, collaborating with diverse teams, including developers and engineers, to ensure products are accessible before launch. Her expertise extends to productizing health innovations, optimizing the user experience in call centers and biometric screenings, and reimagining wellness programs at Alliance Data Systems and Devon Energy. Sonya's innovative approach has consistently resulted in expanded services, well-designed incentives, improved employee experiences, and award-winning initiatives. With a background rooted in fostering inclusivity and accessibility, Sonya brings a wealth of experience in creating impactful user experiences that resonate with diverse audiences.
