Brent Shiver

Software Engineer, IBM


Brent Shiver, Ph.D., is an Advisory Software Engineer on the Accessibility Technology & Innovation team at IBM Design Program Office in Austin, Texas. He focuses on designing and developing software that addresses accessibility issues, and that enables others to create accessible products. For the ten years before his arrival at IBM, Brent worked as a software developer at a high-frequency trading firm in Chicago. His doctoral dissertation at DePaul explored the application of automatic speech recognition on Internet videos to improve accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing users. Brent enjoys volunteering at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD), including helping out with the wrestling team and serving on the TSD Foundation Board.
