James Green

Head of Global Design Research & Accessibility, Visa


James Green leads digital accessibility at Chase, driving teams across product, technology, experience and design to create inclusive customer experiences that make the Chase Mobile App, Chase.com and other products work better for people of all abilities. He manages a team of experts in accessibility across the firm, and partners with executives across the firm’s Office of Disability Inclusion and other businesses to serve customers of all needs. He is a passionate Servant Leader with a focus on inclusion and people-first work, and has a long track record of driving innovation, advocating for all users, attracting and growing talent, and building inclusive, high-impact organizations.

James brings more than 25 years of experience in technology, consulting and design to the table. Prior to Chase, he built and led multiple cross-functional and distributed Design, Research, and Accessibility teams at Visa, supporting products for business owners and consumers across the globe. While at Visa, he helped produce the world’s first large commercial WCAG 2.0 AA conforming website – the global standard in accessibility-- while vetting the draft 2.0 requirements with a real-world development team. He later authored Visa’s Global Accessibility Requirements (VGAR), which are a practical and more-easily adoptable translation of WCAG 2.0 and other international standards. Earlier in his career, he was as a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, helping clients in the US and Europe make the right decisions for their users.

James was an invited speaker at SXSW 2019, where he presented his work to help drive innovation and accessibility across companies and industries, and continues to be an expert speaker on the topic. James also spent six years (four as Chair) on the Board of Directors of Knowbility, a globally recognized Accessibility nonprofit organization with the mission of creating an inclusive digital world for people with disabilities through their education, outreach, and consulting programs.

James has B.S. Degrees in Marketing and Finance, both from the University of Maryland, College Park. He currently resides in Austin, TX with his wife, 3 children, and 2 dogs.
