Tom Brunet is the Head of Accessibility Technology and Innovation for IBM Accessibility (ibm.com/able), managing the technical development and operations of IBM’s accessibility platforms. Tom has been developing accessibility tools since he joined IBM Accessibility as a student in 2000. Over the next three years, he developed the content extraction and navigation engine for Home Page Reader 3.0, the first self-voicing, JavaScript enabled web browser. Tom joined IBM Accessibility full time in 2006. Tom has led the development of compliance related platforms and tools for understanding, testing, tracking, and reporting compliance against IBM’s Corporate Instruction 162, which is a unified standard across leading accessibility standards. These tools are built to handle leading web application standards and techniques, integrate into modern development processes, and are able to report across IBM’s diverse portfolio of offerings. Tom works closely with teams across all IBM divisions, ensuring that IBM and IBM’s customers can identify and remediate accessibility issues in their applications.
