Brent Shiver, Ph.D. is an Advisory Software Engineer on the Accessibility Technology & Innovation team at IBM Research in Austin, Texas. He focuses on designing and developing software that address accessibility issues and that enable others to create accessible products. For the ten years before his arrival at IBM, Brent worked as a software developer at a high-frequency trading firm in Chicago. His doctoral dissertation at DePaul explored the application of automatic speech recognition on Internet videos to improve accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing users. Brent enjoys volunteering at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) including helping out with the wrestling team and STEM activities and serving on the TSD Foundation Board.
