Description

Find Learning Through Competition: How Competing in (and Winning) the AIR 2022 Accelerated Our Accessibility Journey on the Knowbility Learning Center

In this session, members of the AIRway team will explore the rigors they underwent while participating in the AIR competition. We will discuss the reasons why this format really advanced our learning and skills. We’ll talk about technical practices, collaboration techniques, and client and project management processes we employed in the competition to keep accessibility at the heart of our build. We’ll also explore how anyone at any stage can use the skills learned in this competition to supercharge their own accessibility practice.

Practical Skills

  • Participants will develop a process for making choices related to the accessibility of their sites.
  • Participants will learn to follow and exceed a given standard without being limited by it. We’ll show how we followed the AIR judging form, but participants will learn how to adapt this process to the WCAG, Section 504 guidelines, EN 301 549, etc.
  • Participants at all levels in our session will decide (hopefully) to participate in AIR next year! At the very least they'll learn some useful aspects of competition and consider getting involved next year.
