AccessU volunteers help create a welcoming and accessible experience for everyone attending the conference. From supporting sessions to helping attendees navigate the event, volunteers play an important role in making AccessU a success.

Please review the volunteer roles, perks, and expectations below before completing the Volunteer Application.

Available Volunteer Roles

  • Registration and Help Desk (Onsite) – Welcome attendees, assist with check-in and registration, and answer general event questions.
  • Room Hosts (Onsite) – Support presenters during sessions and assist with timing, microphones, and attendee questions.
  • Directional Help (Onsite) – Help attendees find buildings, session rooms, and key event locations.
  • Miscellaneous Support (Onsite) – Assist staff with event setup, teardown, materials, and other general event needs.
  • Evening / Social Event Ushering (Onsite) – Greet attendees and help support the flow and logistics of evening or social events.
  • Virtual Help Desk – Monitor the Slack Help channel and assist virtual attendees with questions or issues.

Volunteer Perks

  • Conference Access: Trade service hours for session passes (4 hours worked = 4 hours of learning). Pre-approval is required. (See note below)
  • Official Gear: Pick up a Knowbility t-shirt to wear during your shifts and keep afterward.
  • Meals: Enjoy breakfast and/or lunch on your volunteer days. (Eligibility is based on shift length).

A Note about the Conference Access Perk:

When building the schedule, we do our best to avoid conflicts with specific sessions you wish to attend. However, because we must ensure all roles are covered to keep the conference running smoothly, we cannot guarantee every request. Once your schedule is confirmed, we are unable to make adjustments based on session timing alone.

Volunteer Expectations

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Attend the mandatory Volunteer Orientation and Training.
  • Accept invitations to join AccessU Slack workspace and volunteer channels.
  • Communicate via Slack, text, or email before and during the conference as needed.
  • Fulfill their scheduled volunteer shifts as agreed upon.
  • Volunteers who have been approved to trade service hours for conference attendance must complete their agreed-upon service hours before attending sessions.
