Conducting Accessibility Testing
taught by: Gian Wild
Session Summary
How do you figure out what, when, who and how accessibility testing should be conducted? Gian Wild talks about who should do the testing: hiring experts, hiring people with disabilities or training up existing staff, using external consultancies or building an in-house accessibility team.
Description
But that is only part of the project – you need to decide what to test as well. Using WCAG2’s Evaluation Methodology as a base, Gian covers what in a site, application or mobile app needs to be tested. Next is determining how the testing should be conducted – using automated testing tools, people with disabilities and manual testing. Last but not least, Gian covers how to present the test results.
Practical Skills
- Testing with people with disabilities is not sufficient, and should NEVER be done first.
- It's not enough to plan for a11y testing: you have to plan for the fixes and the re-tests too!
- Automated testing is not sufficient.
