Description
There are multiple types of physical and cognitive disabilities that should be considered when designing for digital accessibility. At the high level, designers should be aware of visual, auditory, mobility, speech, and cognitive constraints and disabilities. However, each of these categories/groups have multiple types of that specific constraint/impairment. For example, in the context of DA, visual constraints/impairment covers total blindness, low vision, macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, and color blindness.
When the high categories are multiplied by number of their types, it can become overwhelming, especially to the novice to the digital accessibility world. It is possible that many are not aware of the various types of each category. This course is designed to help the participants to address the confusion and provide clear and easy answers.
Practical Skills
- Participants of this session will about the categories of disabilities and the types of disabilities in each.
- Participants will gain a better understanding the types of disabilities in the context of digital accessibility that need to be addressed to meet DA compliance.
- They will also learn how and what technologies and tools to use to assist them in reviewing and adjusting their designs.
