Description

This class will offer the fundamentals of why accessibility is a civil right of people with disabilities and share up-to-date developments in the digital accessibility legal space relevant to the public, private, and education sectors.

This class is for everyone who wants to learn more about the intersection of law and digital accessibility. It will lay the foundation and explore recent highlights of the digital accessibility legal landscape in the United States (with a brief dip into international law and policy). We'll discuss best practices to help organizations avoid or respond to legal claims. Topics include lawsuits, settlements, court orders, and administrative actions. We will address recent guidance from the United States Department of Justice and pending or expected bills and regulations in this space. We'll also explore where the law might be going next. Bring your questions about how the law impacts digital accessibility and practical options for compliance – including what doesn’t work. They will be answered in a straight-forward presentation without legalese. This class is designed for anyone interested in making the digital world accessible, including educators, policy makers, developers, designers, advocates, corporate and government champions, lawyers, and more.
