Picking plug-ins to assist developers and testers review, test and simulate accessibility features can be a perplexing problem. What plug-ins perform, which instead lead to pain and which can you procure for less than a penny?


Description

In this session we will take a deep dive into the wide range of plug-ins freely available which assist with development and testing of your websites for accessibility. Plug-ins can often be the first exposure individuals get when starting their accessibility journey before purchasing other tools, but many people do not know where to start and stumble through trying to determine the high performing plug-ins versus the highly painful-to-use plugins.

The session will provide demonstrations of many different plug-ins, discuss their best uses, identify if they are fit for purpose, rank features and their ease of use, to help equip individuals and allow them to identify the best tools available for their need. There will even be some peculiar but promising plug-ins of which even the most pedantic of professionals may not have previously perceived.

This session is applicable to beginner and intermediate levels.

  • Attendees will be able to identify multiple free plug-ins which can assist them during development and testing for website accessibility.
  • Attendees will understand the operation of demonstrated plug-ins and the tasks where these plug-ins best perform.
  • Attendees will learn time saving tips and tricks for reviewing hard to test Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) criteria through freely available plug-ins which benefits even the most seasoned professionals.
