Beginning Your Accessibility Journey with WordPress
taught by: Joe A Simpson Jr
Session Summary
New to Accessibility and WordPress? In this interactive presentation, we'll cover the basics of using WordPress to build accessible websites - surveying the viability of current tools, plugins, themes, and the Full Site Editor.
Description
Looking for a new tool to create a more inclusive and open website for your company or institution? We’ll provide an overview of Accessibility’s history, how it impacts your digital experiences as described in WCAG Guidelines, and why it is critical to your early planning efforts for your digital projects.
We’ll demonstrate how to build a site from scratch using WordPress, which powers over 42% of the web from finding a host, theme, plugins, and browser-based tools that help you test for accessibility - and where to find them. We’ll cover the main areas that most websites fail, consider best practices for addressing them, and share community learning resources to support and empower your journey. And we’ll discuss your questions and celebrate your wins.
