Understanding the User Needs
taught by: Helen Burge
Session Summary
With accessibility, we all make or have made assumptions about what users want or need. In this talk I will walk through several assumptions made by me or others about users needs, and correct them from lessons learned.
Description
I have worked in accessibility for over 20 years and cringe at some of my ideas I had in the early days. Working with people that have a stronger need for accessibility I have listened to them to understand the audience for accessibility better. I start the talk by sharing my lived experience, as a mum of 2 neurodivergent boys. They have very different needs but a shared diagnosis of autism, partly down to their personalities!
I will then share my learned experiences and hope to help others that attend learn a new fact they might not have known before (or help you to confirm your ideas!)
Practical Skills
- User needs.
- Audit solutions for issues.
- Humanise testing objectives.
