Digital Accessibility Ethics: A new tool to advance disability inclusion in tech
Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech is an edited collection written by 39 authors from 10 countries with over 600 years of accessibility and disability experience. It introduces the first Digital Accessibility Ethics Framework, a values-driven actionable strategy with two goals:
- advance digital accessibility across sectors and
- help disabled people and organizations avoid the risks and harms of disability exclusion in tech.
Our session will offer a deep dive into both the Framework as a whole and how it can be applied to both the practice of accessibility, and to digital products and services across sectors and technology.
- Jess Moore Matthews, author of the chapter titled Democracy for All: Addressing Accessibility Challenges for Disabled Voters will share stories from her chapter and her own work using an ethics lens to help end disability discrimination in the voting process.
- Erin Brown, who lives in the Bahamas and is the author of the chapter titled No One Left Behind Digital Accessibility Ethics and Emergency Preparedness will talk about the serious risks and harms to disabled people when emergency preparedness systems are not designed with accessibility.
- Lainey Feingold is one of the book’s three editors and an author of two chapters – on the global legal landscape and on accessibility and access to justice. Lainey will talk about some of the other chapters in the book and guide session participants through the Digital Accessibility Ethics Framework at the heart of the collection.
The Digital Accessibility Ethics Framework is a flexible tool that can be put to immediate use. It is for all of us to mold and grow in service to its central tenet: Disabled people are an integral part of humanity and have a human right to be part of the digital world in every way possible.

Meet Your Presenters
Lainey Feingold is a US-based disability rights lawyer, author, and international speaker who has worked in the digital accessibility space since 1995. She is a co-editor, and one of 39 authors from 10 countries, of Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech (2026). Jess Moore Matthews is the Founder and Chief Good Troublemaker at Backbone Digital Leaders, an accessible digital marketing agency founded and led by Black women. She has served as an Adjunct Professor at New York University, a Just Tech Fellow, and the author of Chapter 26 in Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech. Jess’s expertise stems from her leadership on several presidential and down‑ballot campaigns, as well as in industries from tech and journalism to state and local government.
Erin Brown, PhD (hc) is a Bahamian Disability Inclusion Consultant and Director of Disabilities and Compliance at the University of the Bahamas. As an osteosarcoma survivor and above-the-knee amputee, she leads the Bahamas Paralympic Committee. Erin wrote Chapter 19 in Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech.
