Volunteer at John Slatin AccessU 2022

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at AccessU 2022! This year's conference will take place from May 9th - 12th. Due to the dual nature of this event, some of the roles will be in-person at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, while others will be remote. You can read up on the conference details on the AccessU page of our website.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the roles listed below, please fill out our Volunteer Form. If you have any questions, please email volunteer@knowbility.org.

Volunteering at AccessU

AccessU wouldn't be nearly as successful without volunteer help, so thank you again for your interest in being a part of the team! Here are a few quick facts about volunteering with Knowbility:

  • Volunteer shifts are scheduled in 4-hour segments
  • For each shift worked, volunteers may attend 4 hours of AccessU activities at no charge — workshops, classes, keynotes, or social activities
  • Volunteers may choose to purchase tickets to the full AccessU schedule for the pre-sale rate of $289 to receive all recordings and attend all the additional conference activities

Many of this year's will be pre-recorded during the week leading up to AccessU (May 1 - May 6). During that week, we will need volunteer help with cleaning up the transcriptions for these sessions before making them available to attendees on May 7th. Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning up the auto-generated transcript for the entirety of each session
  • Ensuring the captions match the speed and content of the audio

Each session will take about 2-3 hours to complete. Requirements include:

  • Computer access
  • Good command of spelling and grammar
  • Ability to work with a deadline

Live Q&A Moderator (onsite or online)

On Wednesday and Thursday of the conference, presenters who submitted pre-recorded sessions will lead live Q&As for participants to answer any follow-up questions they have.

We need volunteer moderators to:

  • Monitor the chat for all questions
  • Organize the questions into a queue
  • Help the presenter balance questions from onsite participants with questions from virtual participants
  • Keep track of time

Shifts will be in 4-hour blocks. You can sign up for the morning shift (9 AM - 1 PM) or the afternoon shift (1:30 PM - 5:30 PM) on either day.
