Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR)

Welcome to AIR - the Accessibility Internet Rally is an annual accessibility web building contest. Teams of web pros learn about accessibility and use their new skills to compete for top honors by creating a site for a local charity. This fun, friendly competition builds community around the powerful idea of equal access to the web for all. Join Us!

Who can participate?

Everyone who wants to build a more inclusive digital world for people with disabilities should join the Accessibility Interent Rally (AIR)!

  • Nonprofits, artists, and community groups that want to work with a team of web pros to create or improve their web site for accessibility.
  • Web professionals across all roles who want to learn or improve their inclusive design skills.
  • Experienced accessibility practitioners to serve as trainers, judges and team mentors.

How AIR Works

Volunteer web designers and developers learn up-to-date techniques for making websites accessible through specialized training. Teams of designers and developers are paired with an expert mentor who guides them. After training, each team is matched with a registered nonprofit "client," and the race to accessibility is on!

In eight weeks, the teams work with their clients with help from their accessibility mentor to build a compelling - and fully accessible - web site that serves the client mission. Sites are judged, and winners are celebrated at the AIR Awards ceremony. All accessibility experts and work are celebrated at the awards party in January, with the top 3 scoring sites taking home trophies. It's a fun, friendly way to learn and grow your accessibility knowledge and skills.

AIR Timeline

The competition runs from mid-September to mid-November, with an awards ceremony in January where the results are announced. Outside of working with your team and organization, It includes four major events, all of which are conducted virtually:

  • AIR Kickoff (September 26, 2024)
  • AIR Rally Mid-Point Check In (October 26, 2024)
  • AIR Final Countdown & Submissions Due (November 26, 2024)
  • AIR Awards Ceremony (January 16, 2025)
