Often, information accessibility isn't just about writing clean and semantically-rich code for a Web site. It's equally important to make an organization's content accessible by creating documents so that those who use assistive technology are able to access them with ease.

In his presentation on Tuesday, February 28 at 8:30 AM, Sean Keegan will provide you with the general strategies you will need to author documents using a variety of platforms and tools including Microsoft Word, Open Office, and PDF. Once you understand the general concepts, you'll get down to business and start creating accessible documents of your own.

Specific topics include:

  • how to use Microsoft Office and OpenOffice to create accessible documents
  • accessible solutions for document semantics, images, tables, and forms
  • conversion options for creating accessible PDF documents, DAISY talking books, and other accessible formats
  • tools for evaluating documents for accessibility

Bring your laptop so you can actively participate in the hands-on exercises Sean has planned. And bring your questions about the kinds of documents you work on every day so that you can return to work confident that what you've learned will make a difference to those with disabilities who need the information you have to offer.

Sean is the Associate Director, Assistive Technology in the Office of Accessible Education at Stanford University. He oversees the assistive technology and alternate format production programs that focus on accessible solutions for students with print disabilities campus-wide.

Have you been looking for a chance to learn how to create accessible content for your organization and share your knowledge with colleagues? If so, then Sean's expertise is what you need! Sign up today for this workshop and other sessions that will be held during Knowbility's AccessU at CSUN 2012.
