What if the accessibility work you do today becomes the very thing that empowers your future self?
Helping Others Today Could Shape Your Own Tomorrow
- Thursday, March 20, 2025, 5:00 - 6:00 pm CT
- Presenters: Dave Dauber & Marc Thorson, Nelnet
- Online via Zoom
Description
Join Dave Dauber and Marc Thorson, two lifelong wheelchair users, for an eye-opening discussion that will challenge you to think about accessibility as more than a checklist, but as a means to shape your own future.
Through their personal journeys in tech and accessibility, Dave and Marc will demonstrate that building an inclusive digital world doesn’t just help others today but could also help you tomorrow. This powerful session will use real-life experiences, to take a deeper dive into thinking of accessibility as not just compliance and standards but as a key to your own future independence.
Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights that could change the way you code, design, and interact with technology forever.
Meet Your Presenters

Marc learned early in his career that accessible code wasn’t just good for others—it was simply good code. But as his SMA progressed, he found himself relying more and more on the very technologies he once built for others—first switching from a mouse to a keyboard, then to voice control, and now using eye-gaze technology to navigate his computer.

Dave, on the other hand, began coding at the dawn of the ADA but before the internet even existed. When he first discovered digital accessibility, it was through Knowbility's AIR competition—yet it soon became his calling. Years later, after experiencing a stroke that further impacted his mobility, he found himself in a hospital bed learning voice control—not just as a developer, but as a user.
