A11y IRL: Practical Patterns For More Accessible Single-Page Applications

taught by: Melanie Sumner

Session Summary:

Learn how to implement accessible patterns, recognize anti-patterns to avoid, and abstract patterns for re-use.

Your designer gives you a shiny new mockup for a brand new feature. As a JS framework developer, how do you make sure that the implementation is accessible?

In this talk, we will review a few patterns that might come across your desk- and how to implement them in a way that doesn’t sacrifice accessibility. By learning both the accessible pattern and the anti-pattern, you will be empowered to craft better code and think more completely about the kind of work you produce.

Practical Skills:

  • Reviewing UI patterns
  • Finding anti-patterns
  • Abstracting for reuse
