Community Programs Manager

Knowbility is seeking a Community Program and Events Manager to provide leadership in the planning, coordination, funding and evaluation of Knowbility’s marquee community programs: the Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) and AccessWorks. As well, this position will support the Director of Education in the development of the K12AccessToolkit and the production of the annual training conferences AccessU and AccessEDU. The essential task of this position is to produce high quality community programs and events that serve Knowbility’s mission of creating an inclusive digital world for people of all abilities.


This position reports to the Director of Education, and coordinates with the Development Director, Marketing Director, and the Community Programs team. Duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Logistical leadership for Accessibility Internet Rally logistics (specific training content is managed and created by the Education Director). Logistics include:

    • volunteer recruitment, engagement , and communication;

    • team recruitment and expectation setting;

    • nonprofit organization recruitment and expectation setting;

    • planning and delivery of associated virtual events;

    • for onsite events, coordinate or oversee the coordination of guest lists, food service arrangements, menu planning, decorative and table set up, name tags and volunteer support as needed;

    • calendar management;

    • coordinate with Development Director to acquire and engage sponsors and other fundraising activities.

    • coordinate with Marketing Director to create clear and consistent content and massaging on the AIR and Knowbility web sites and social media platforms;

  • Recruit, support, manage and coordinate volunteers for community programs and special events. For example, post and monitor response to volunteer opportunities on Volunteer Match.

  • Receive leads from Development Director on grant opportunities and regularly submit grant requests in support of community programs.

  • Monitor and evaluate all community programs and events, to identify trends and changing needs, and to recommend, plan and implement program changes.

  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships and cooperative arrangements with corporations and other businesses, government programs, community groups and others to assure ongoing coordination of and support for Knowbility programs.

  • Create individual program and event budgets and oversee their management, including tracking expenses and communicating needs to the Director of Operations.

  • Assure development, documentation and maintenance of guidelines, systems, procedures and materials necessary to support effective delivery of Knowbility community programs and events.

  • Oversee the development of effective ways to increase community awareness of Knowbility, its community programs and events, and accessibility. Work with Marketing Director to develop and distribute media, marketing materials, announcements, photo opportunities and other outreach.

  • Be able to clearly articulate and promote a strong case for philanthropy in support of Knowbility community programs and events.

  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The Community Programs Manager must live in Austin, Texas.

As well, demonstrable experience is required in these areas:

  • Degree in a related field, such as Marketing, Public or Community Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or Event Planning

  • One year (or more) of experience in special events planning

  • Successful grant writing experience

  • Demonstrated excellence and success in managing complex programs and projects

  • Ability to independently manage several projects concurrently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with team members and volunteers online, leading meetings and presentations, working remotely, and ensuring stakeholders have access to up-to-date, essential information.

  • Versatility, flexibility, and enthusiasm to work in a dynamic working environment that is a mix of onsite and online interactions and activities.

  • Experience in cultivating partnerships and attracting sponsorships.

  • Strong initiative and customer service orientation.

  • Demonstrated high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment.

  • Proactive and motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Outstanding organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Docs and Drive

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the not-for-profit or government sector.

  • Strong interest in digital accessibility. Accessibility experience is preferred but not required.

  • Web design and development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) skills and experience

  • Basic understanding of digital communications, design, development, UX or related fields

  • Skills and working knowledge of web accessibility principles, techniques and guidelines

  • Salesforce experience


Starting pay range is $36,000–$48,000 annually based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time permanent professional position with opportunities for advancement. Our excellent benefits package includes:
