We are using a CMS as well but the link checker that is built into it is
far below standards.

Jess, I'm sure this is beyond the scope you intended, but we got such a
tool and much, much, more by moving our site into an open source content
management system, Plone. (The move is taking place now; the new site is
supposed to go public the 21st of this month.)

This may be a bit of the topic of accessibility but I know most of the
people on here will have the best answer.

 

I am looking for a broken link verifier that is preferably open-source
or web based. The ideal tool would be free, stand-alone, and be able to
be used for both external sites and internal sites (aka. behind the
firewall).

 

Anyone have ideas?
