Node,
Can you detail the specific methods you use to perform the actions in your steps – I’m thinking about a keystroke conflict but I can’t tell what keys or process you are using without the extra detail. I’m sorry that this is a hassle, but I can promise that we’ll get to the bottom of it with your help.
Thanks,
AWK

Subject: Re: [Accessibility_sig] JAWS Adobe Acrobat Professional Problem
At first I thought JAWS was the read-out-loud function continuing into a non-pdf document because I didn't turn off the read-out-loud function but I realized the voice had changed from the PDF read-out-loud voice to the more mechanical JAWS voice. Sure enough when I looked the JAWS 8 dropdown was open. The voice stopped when I turned off JAWS. This wouldn't be a problem if I weren't officed with people who find the voice and speed of JAWS to be disturbing to their concentration. I wear head-phones but the first time this happened, because I thought I was through, I unplugged them -- I got an immediate reaction from my office mates. Now I keep my headphones on and plugged in until I turn off JAWS.
Below is the sequence I use with the Read-Out-Loud Function in Adobe Acrobat 9:
1) Open Adobe Acrobat 9
2) Use Adobe Acrobat 9 to open pdf document (often but not always a PeopleSoft report)
3) Select Read-Out-Loud Function
4) Listen to document (voice is Read-Out-Loud voice)
5) Close Document
6) Close Adobe Acrobat 9
7) JAWS 8 voice begins reading what my computer has in focus (without my turning on JAWS )
8) Turn off JAWS 8
I didn't notice this with Acrobat 8 and JAWS 7 -- but it could have been happening then and I had my headphones on and didn't notice. (After awhile you get used to the JAWS voice and only really listen when it gets to the part that interests you.)

That is unexpected. Can you provide detailed steps to reproduce this?

I have Freedom Scientific's JAWS program on my computer. When I use the Read Out Loud function on Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0, it turns on JAWS. After I close the pdf and get out of Acrobat, JAWS remains on until I turn it off. Is there a reason for this?
If anyone can give me some insight into this problem (it's more of an inconvenience), I would appreciate it.
Thank you.
