This just in.
The Target law suit has been settled.
Here is my take on significant points of the settlement.
1. Target does not admit that their site was ever inaccessible or in
violation of disability rights laws. (Case does not set a precedent for
the applicability of the ADA)
2. Target pays a maximum of 6M to the claimants (2007 Revenue 59 B,
Net Income 2.8 B, Current Stock Price 52.18 down .77 today - very small
slap on the wrist, may not even be enough to discourage others from
similar behavior)
3. Target will make their website compatible with screen reader
software with input from NFB. (What about keyboard access without a
screen reader, compatibility with screen magnifiers, compliance with
WCAG or Section 508?)
Not to rain on NFB's parade but I think that they sold short.
