[Accessibility_sig] Is DOJO accessible?

accessible Dojo widgets/tools only work in Firefox...it has the support for
ARIA accessibility states/roles. I did a cursory test of the email, Get Mail
pulled down when I hit enter, remember that tab moves between links or
sections - that is -- the folder tabs at the top of the email...you can tab
to the Get Mail tab, but must use arrow keys to move between tabs. the
folder list on the right...you can tab to the first item, but arrow through
the list.

The WAI X-tech list http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/wai-xtech/ is the
official public discussion location for this work. The list will have more
information about the accessible widgets (which may or may not be the same
as the examples on the DOJO site...I don't have that information).

I took a quick look at the Demos on the DOJO site, and could not get them
to work with the keyboard either. The email demo does partially work with
the keyboard, but there were features I couldn't get to work properly.

The question would be is this an accessibility failure on the part of the
toolkit or the developer(s)? Any toolkit may provide a lot of great
features to aid a developer in creating an accessible site, but they can't
be relied on 100% - the same way you can't rely on your (X)HTML editor to
automatically create an accessible site.

My recommendation would be to use the DOJO toolkit to create your own
samples and see if it can be used to create an accessible site. If so, then
perhaps the demos are flawed. If not, perhaps the toolkit needs further
refinement.

While at the IBM accessibility site I saw a recommendation of the DOJO
toolkit as providing accessible web 2.0.
http://www-03.ibm.com/able/resources/dojo.html; but I was unable to use my
keyboard to navigate in either of the examples at the DOJO site. However, no
one has ever accused me of being a power user; so I was wondering if anyone
else has looked into the accessibility of this particular tool kit?
