I heard a piece on NPR this morning featuring an atypical screen
reader user: atypical because he's not blind. His vision-impairment is
caused by a lack of muscle control due to Cerebral Palsy, making him,
effectively, vision-, mobility-, and dexterity-impaired. The mention
of the screen reader is a minor note in the story but I mention it
because, too often, people (including most professional web designers
and developers) assume IT accessibility is only about blindness.
Although the story doesn't mention which screen reader he uses, it is
a testament to the quality and importance of work done by all AT
vendors.
If any of you are on this list, you know who you are. Thanks guys, and
keep up the good work.
