[Accessibility_sig] pdf

I agree with Michael about posting an HTML version online.

It is common practice to include a link (even in the HTML version) that
reads something like "Trouble reading this email? Read it online." at
the top of the email. I've used a lot of commercial email newsletter
software over the years and most provide this functionality out of the
box.

I do not know whether it is possible to embed pdf into an email but it
would be highly undesirable from an accessibility standpoint. If a user
were to attempt to read this email with JAWS, then JAWS would be using
the JFC (Jaws Configuration File) for the email application rather than
for pdf. A better solution would be to attach the pdf version or link
to it from the email.

Your issue with plain text presentation of the email in Thunderbird has
to do with user preferences on the email application. Outlook also
allows users to to choose to display all incoming emails in plain text.
It is not a good idea to attempt to force users to view the email in
html only (I don't even know if it is technically possible) and you
should send both versions for the best result. You can link from the
plain text version to an on-line html version.

Is it possible to embed a pdf document into the body of an e-mail? The
organization I work for sends out an electronic newsletter, and I want
to make sure tha the format of the newsletter will be preserved cross
platform. Until last month, we sent out a newsletter in html format. I
discovered, however, that Mozilla Thunderbird would display our html
newsletter in plain text format.

I thought, for this reason, that the best way to preserve the formatting
and appearance of the newsletter is to send it out as a pdf file.
Unfortunately, I only know how to attach a pdf to an e-mail message. Is
it possible to put the body of a pdf file in an e-mail message? If this
is possible, where can I find some instructions on how to do so?
