OK, saw it there..way down at the end. I had checked the other
commercials, but didn't think that a superbowl commercial would still be
used this late in the year. I had a little chat with one of their support
people via their live chat facility. It went like this:
Welcome to Overstock.com's Customer Service Live Chat! You will be joined
with a chat representative momentarily.
Welcome to Overstock.com Customer Service, you are now chatting with Noah.
Noah: Thank you for visiting Overstock.com, my name is Noah. How can I
help you ?
me: in the superbowl commercial, what is the significance of the
wheelchair icon?
me: it's right at the end, with the overstock.com logo
Noah: I'll be glad to provide you with this information.
Noah: Its just the Overstock.com O logo.
Noah: The wheel represents the O circle.
me: but there's a wheelchair icon there
me: which is normally an indication of being handicap accessible
Noah: Yes that's right, anyone can purchase at Overstock.com.
Noah: However, the wheelchair commercial is just a logo of Overstock.com.
me: and you can only purchase from overstock.com via the internet,
correct?
Noah: Yes that's right.
Noah: This is an online shopping site and customer's can purchase only via
internet.
me: the wheelchair icon in an internationally recognized symbol.
Overstock.com has decided to use it as part of their logo?
me: I don't see that symbol on the web site, I only saw it on that
commercial.
Noah: I'm so sorry, I do not have more information regarding this,
however, if you could provide me with your email address, I'll forward a
request to our Research Team to calrify on this.
Noah: They'll get back to you by the next business day.
me: how about a phone number instead?
Noah: Also please provide me with that link where you saw the commercial?
Noah: Okay that too is fine, please provide me your contact number.
me: The commercials are listed here:

me: the wheelchair icon is in the "NEW" superbowl commercial (wasn't the
superbowl back in March or something?)
me: My name is Bill Woodland, and my cell phone number is 512-565-7946.
I'd really like to speak to someone about that wheelchair icon, and also
about web accessibility.
Noah: Sure, Bill I'm forwarding a request on your behalf right away.
me: Thanks, Noah. I have friends who are disabled, and I'm sure they would
like to see Overstock.com improve their web accessibility.
Noah: Sure, Bill I'm forwarding this right away.
Noah: Is there anything else I can help you with?
me: Not at the moment, but thanks.
Noah: Thank you visiting Overstock.com. Have a Great Day.
I'll let you folks know how they respond :)

For whatever reason, they keep the commercials on the site if you're
interested.

10 errors, 1189 warnings (mostly unescaped ampersands), 406 access
warnings, 1 JavaScript error, 12 JavaScript warnings... and that's just
the home page. Not a good start, eh?
Missing alts, even on their logo and pecial offers! No heading elements.
Form fields not marked up as well as they could be. No indication of
location when tabbing through a page that is a sea of links. Turning off
CSS is quite fun. Reliance on JavaScript in areas, including search
results.
Anyone else think that this is a "ha ha, we're better than Target"
marketing approach?
