MD Anderson has posted a full time position for a designer who can oversee 
their newly initiated web accessibility effort.

The Manager of Web Development & Operations of the MD Anderson Internet 
Services Department said that when they posted the position it was 
primarily intended for design (graphic) standard but that they are now 
seeking someone who can fulfill the dual role of design and accessibility.

Responsible for the interface designs, accessibility, and usability for 
intranet and Internet web sites and applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Works closely with departmental application development teams to ensure 
user interface elements are consistent, conform to accessibility 
requirements, and meet web industry usability standards.

Act as institutional resource for web site and application templates and 
standards. Implement and continuously improve a common web style guide 
which details cross-platform/cross-browser specific user interface 
guidelines and user interface design patterns.

Create common graphical elements for site navigation, logos, buttons, 
icons, etc.

Assist with the design of information structure and navigation flows for 
web sites and web applications; that includes creating documents including 
but not limited to site maps, wire frames, content matrices, flow 
diagrams/process maps, and detailed functional requirements.

Assist in conducting usability, accessibility, and standards compliance 
testing and other user validation exercises.

EDUCATION:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent 
combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree. 
Proficiency in an assembler language (or comparable machine coding 
language) and one other language, plus working knowledge of one or more 
additional languages. Some special training courses in areas such as 
operating systems, access methods, telecommunications and other areas of 
systems software.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years experience in systems programming, web site and 
application interface design with at least three years experience in 
related software programs. Experience must include demonstrable web site 
accessibility and usability compliance.
